Use it Or lose it!

Going to school full time sucks. But taking one class and working and getting paid is not so bad. The class I am taking is physical growth and aging. We had a guest speaker today some Dr. that I thought was gonna be super boring. Anyways he was fairly interesting. He was blunt and I liked that. One of the first things he said was your gonna get older things are gonna get bad accept it. There is no such thing as golden years. He then went into some physiology, and other diseases, with the main point that being healthy now is vital to good health at old age. We watched a video on nuns who stayed active physically and mentally. Some lived over 100! Anyways it is so so important that you not only stay physically active but mentally as well. My mom bought me a book today its on of Lance Armstrong's "Every Second Counts". After attending this class I am motivated to read it. This will help me get through rest days I will relax and read knowing I am still excersing my brain.

Instant

Well I don't know what happened to fall but just like summer it never came. I guess what was suppose to be summer was fall. On the weekend I would have considered running in a singlet and this morning it was -5.

Overall it was a good day fairly relaxing started out tractor cuttin then got sent back to the regular gig. So I went and did homework for an hour. After that I went bootie shopping because the next ride I will be wearing long pants booties and a jacket.

Todays workout went well, it was a set of intervals 1 on 1 off 2 on 1 off 3 on 1 off 4 on 1 off x3. It was tuff but once my hr was up and in the zone it felt good to keep it there. I look forward to running all day and I fantazise about it at work so it was good to get out and hammer. Burning the extra cals doesnt hurt either cause its getting colder and I am already starting to get carb cravings.

Good Things

Crazy things happened today, most of them good. First off I walked into work and it was cold and windy so I wasn't gonna be doing my regular job. The seasons seriously change in one day here its ridiculous. Because of the weather I was put on a tractor in a closed cab getting paid more to cut grass with a/c, heat, and a radio! Then my friend calls me tells me about an awesome money making oppertunity! And to Cap it all off I had a good swim. So many days have gone by where it is hard to write about things but today was full of great things to write about. I cant wait for coffee and a muffin tomorrow!

Its Time

Its Sunday time for the lsd. I was suppose to meet up with a friend for it but he backed out which is fine by me cause my legs were toast anyways. I headed in my usual shorts and shirt it looked sunny out. But wow you can sure feel that October is just around the bend. It is still shorts weather but could use a long sleeve shirt. I dunno if it was the cold or the salt from the popcorn last night but at the start of the run I was seeing black patches. It was weird but it went away. My legs were tired today which is good means I had a good brick the other day. But I noticed my right foot was getting sore under the arch, I think it was cause I was running on some un even surfaces because it subsided when I stuck to the concrete. It was nice to get early cause it left me to have the whole day to just relax. I went and applied at a local bike shop for winter work. I hope they consider the application it would be a dream workin in a bike shop. I would get to tinker all day!!

Being Fit

Today was a hectic day, its the weekend but it sure doesn't feel like it. I woke up to the sound of my alarm at 7 am I wanted to keep sleeping but "the stink" aka my dog laya needed her morning walk. From there I began to cook breakfast for me and Kelcie. It was tastey I enjoy breakfast and I am a decent breakfast cook.

Once breakfast was finished I poured a cup of coffee and began to plug away at my assignment for my class I am taking on wednesday nights. I have been meaning to do this for a while but just got around to it now. Better late then never though. In the middle of working on this I was interupted to move some items to the front lawn. In Winnipeg this weekend it is a giveaway weekend where you can put all the stuff you dont want on the front lawn and people can come and take it. So since Winnipeg is full of cheap hicks the streets were packed with v8 chevys driven around full of Sh!t they probaily dont need.

It felt good to get some school work done and after that I went to the dog park for a quick walk which layla really appreciated. Even though she went in the biggest mud puddle I have ever seen and came out looking like a frickin grey hound.

After all this was done it was finally time to do the workout. But by this time I was exhausted so I layed down for an hour. When I woke up I felt rejuvenated and putting on my cycle shorts and flashy new helmet always gets me ready to go.

The cycle went well. I dropped my water bottle but for the most part there was no heavy wind and the time went by quickly. When I got back I quickly changed and headed out on a run. I felt awesome. I really appreciated the fact that I was fit and how much I enjoy activity.

Perspective

Through out the day we expeirance many different situations work, rest, workouts. Every now and then I will be caught in the fact that I am having a new perspective of things.

At work this happens all the time where I will doubt what I am doing, or I will just accept what I am doing as a job and many others are just working the same as me. But today when I was filling my truck up with gas I had this perspective of just how small I was in the world. Everybody moving so quickly around me and I am just so small tring to get by in the world.

The other new perspective I had came to me in the pool. Swimming for an entire year I spend a lot of time in the pool/ water. But today was different I was intially tired going to the pool but once I started swimming I could not stop. Where kicking used to bother me and take my energy it not longer did. As tired as I was every stroke felt good. It just felt good to mindlessly be going back and forth in the water it did not feel boring. And for the first time on one of my turns I looked up instead of down and it was different and I just appreciated it.

Training with someone else??

Today I decided to ride with someone else. Since I am going on to my second week of recovery and I will be back at it again next week. It was good the time went by fairly fast but not as fast as I thought it would. When you ride by yourself for an entire summer usually exhausted from work my brain would shut off anyways so I don't even really realize time. Anyways the whole experience of riding with someone else was frustrating first you have to wait till your both ready, then you have to meet up, and then you have to hope your both feeling good to go. Ugh. Too much work. Anyways all in all it was a good cycle I got my friend to pull most of the first lap and then I hammered out the second one and he was super stoked to be going to fast. So it worked out good for both of us.

Usually I have nothing exciting to write about and my days are fairly repetitive, but today was different. 3 good things actually happened today 1. my boss told me I am not getting laid off for another week 2. I test drove an amazing p2c which will be my next bike and 3. I had a good cycle with a friend I haven't seen in a while.

Sense of Accomplishment

Photobucket
Even though my race in muskoka was the worst race of my season. There is still a sense of accomplishment. I have the Official 70.3 mug and I drink from it with pride knowing I completed all 70.3 miles something most people have barley heard about. Now I just have to watch to be sure I do not develop an ego.

Boring Winnipeg

The day started with "work" which isn't really work. I work for the city and the most work I did all day was go for lunch with my aunt. I love my aunt and uncle they are always there for me they are two amazing people. Today all I did was cycle that was the other work I did today decide my workout.... Cycling in Winnipeg is boring to say the least it is ridiculusly flat and the roads are shit.

Learing to rest

It is hard to realize that the race I spent an entire year training for is over... So what did I do I registered for another one ( and hopefully 2). Because triathlon is now more then just one race it is a part of my life. I love the way I look I love the way I feel I love my motivation and I love my physical ability and attentiveness to proper health. It will be hard to make it till next may when race season starts again but hopefully continuing to write will help to pass the time. I just need to learn to relax and chill. As Brian said training for an ironman (or in my case a half ironman) is like being in prison. Now I am out of prison. This year I have new goals and I have to accept that I do not have to train as hard now as I was last year. Coming into this second year I am going to put my focus on to not getting injured and into getting stronger. Because this year my base fitness is already at the level I want. Heck I did 2 half ironmans in my first year taking this on and pb'ed in every race I entered. Now that I have become accustomed to the lifestyle I just have to find the means to maintain it. What better way to start this year then with a list of goals.

2009/2010 Triathlon realated goals:
-Sign up for complete 70.3 Syracuse
-Sign up and complete Ironman 70.3 Calgary
-Train at least 20 weeks with Mark Allen Online
-Get a Kurt Kinetic Trainer
-Get a 100mm rear carbon wheel

Muskoka

Well I did it its over the big race. It was probabily the worst race I have had all year I went out hard on the swim and cycle and died on the run to say the least. What is more important is that after an entire year I have become an athlete. The athlete I have always wanted to be. I look and feel great and I otherwise had a phenomonal season. Next year I am looking to do morden, ironman 70.3 syracurse, and ironman 70.3 calgary.
