Steeple Chase

Today was long run day. Of course its one of the coldest days this week. All morning I was finding other things to do, trying to wait for it to warm up. It never really did. I took a big afternoon nap, which is unusual for me. But I am guessing its from the christmas season. After that I felt I had a little extra energy. Also my aunt called to ask me about my long run which was kind of a kick in the ass to get out the door.

There were many factors to make todays run harder. It was cold this is the first year the cold has really effected my cardio I guess its just me getting older. There was a blizzard that hit Winnipeg Christmas Eve and Christmas day so the streets were covered in snow. They had been plowed but the running paths were not plowed. I was losing massive amounts of power each stride. With the snow also comes snow clearing and I was going over snow banks and drifts some were a good 3 feet. I guess thats the best we get for hills. I made the best of it and it kept things interesting.

I started out not being able to get under the 8 min/mile mark. I had to calm myself and remind my self its winter now, and take into account all of the above. When I did get some dry pavement it was a treat I even ran a couple miles in the 7:20s. I was happy to be done the run today. Felt like I was running in a desert/steeple chase going over those snow banks. O well I got it done and I leave for Banff tomorrow so I am hoping to get some good runs in out there!

Paul Please Go Home

As far as I am concerned the month of December can be broken down into three parts. Before paul got home the week Paul was home and after Paul left. Paul is my brother he plays hockey out in Seattle Washington in the WHL western hockey league. Man does he have some stories. With him being away I started to miss him and he also was getting home sick. Also the rules are strict out there so he just really wanted to come home and hit the sauce with his brother. We partied hard really hard. I managed to squeak in training everyday but man I am happy he is gone. We were so busy I didnt even have time to write cause the time I did have I was probabily drunk.

Sunday:

Sunday was d-day so i knew i had to workout early. I did my lsd in the morning and felt great to get my bro for the afternoon. I grabbed him from the air port we hugged and laughed the whole way home. The night started and ended at the kings head which was amazing. The band there is phenomonal and we stayed till close and didnt hit the sack till around 2.

Monday:

Monday was good I had a chance to sleep in and get stuff done around the house. Paul and I went to the dentist. My workout wasn't till later at night so I had all day to recover. I had a good swim there wasnt many people so I got my own lane and really got to hammer. After that was done at 9 I went straight home changed and went straight to the bar and man did we party that night. The bar was packed and we had a blast Paul and my friend wheeled some girls to come back to our parents house. The party started again there with gutiars cards, and more booze we didnt shut it down untill about 7am that night. Tuesday morning was rough to say the least.

Wednesday:

Tuesday really helped me to feel better for Wednesday. Since I had nothing else to do I dragged Paul to hot yoga. He has done it before but it was really funny to have him there. The instructor asks the class hows everyone doing "great!! WOo" then Paul hungover " hjshfkhsdkI feel aweul" haha it was funny. After that I was feeling like streach so I hit the pool and had an ok swim. Later that night we hit the bar and yes again got hammered and home by about 4 am.

Thursday:

Thursday was now Christmas Eve and weather Paul was there or not I dont think you can stop the chaos ha ha. I was able to sneek in a 40min ride with Paul downstairs. So although not the full hour I was happy to get something done. I took position as dd that night which was good cause it still ended up a late one.

Friday:

Friday was Christmas Day and having my family plus a girlfriend with separated parents I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. HOuse to house. But we made it through I did drink this night and we played some blindfolded musical chairs. Absolutly ridiculous. Then when we got home I had some friends over and we finished partying till 3 am.

Rest Day christmas

Saturday:

Paul finally left today. ha ha. I think things will go back to normal no that hes gone and christmas is done. It felt good to have the christmas stress gone. I Just hung out on the bike and watched a cycling movie American Flyers. It was about 2 brothers I guess very well suited seeing as how I just saw my bro. Anyways I leave to banff on monday so I was just busy packing and prepairing.

Meant to be

The universe works in mysterious ways. I slept in today after the long night last night. I just slept till I felt good that's all, I woke up energized. I was sleeping at Kelcie's so I made my way home for today cycle. I fueled up and headed down stairs by around 3 or so. When I hopped on I noticed it wasn't riding as smooth as it should. Since I was going to be on here for 2 hours I wanted it to be running perfect. I figured it was something small just rubbing. anyways I ended up burning about a half hour adjusting the trainer and checking my drive train. I was starting to get really frustrated. But I then found a minor hole in my tire which had caused it to expand making a bump in the tire causing the rough ride. So I swapped it out quickly with a tire from my dads bike and I was on my way.

This delay had really bugged me. I just wanted to hop on and go. Once I started riding how ever I could see the reason for the delay. I turned on the TV and on the channel it was on the Ironman World Championships from Kona Hawaii were on. I had been following it on the forums so I had already known the outcome but I was still so excited to watch!!!

As I started to ride and warm up I was getting more and more pumped. NBC's coverage was really really good and they not only covered the pros but also captured truly amazing stories about ordinary people and the dream of completing the Ironman World Championships.

There was a guy who had cancer for 20 years of his life not knowing if he was going to live and he was crying at the thought of finishing. He missed the swim cut by 7 seconds. This brought a grown man to his knees in pain. There were 2 navy officers who had to do all there training on ships. One of them does 3 hr treadmill runs. There was a 58yr old women who had a stroke. And said everything is an accomplishment crossing the start is an accomplishment starting the bike is and accomplishment finishing the bike is and accomplishment. 2yrs ago she had to re learn to walk. On that day she was an Ironman. There was a boy with no legs he had to do the entire cycle using only his gluts. He missed the cut off by 5 minutes, still an amazing effort.

They also showed footage of old Ironmans, footage of (arguably) the worlds fittest people collapsing 400m from the finish line of a 140.6 mile race. There was one women this year that did not make the cut off and was helped across the line almost unconcious. But in the minds of the people that day she was an Ironman.

As for the pros, well they are just disgusting. Christie Wellington, and Craig Alexzander are both absolute machines. Christie didnt even have competition, she was racing against the course record. Craig Alexzander made up a 12 min deficit from the bike with almost no signs of pain on his face to join Mark Allen, Dave Scott and Tim Deboom as defending Ironman Champions.

Watching the race was probabilay one of the most inspireing things I have seen in a long time. My heart rate was even higher then normal. Although I had to cut my ride short to go to work I came home after just to finish, becuase I was so motivated.

Long Night

I am young and its friday night. Its a good day. Spent most of the day with the dog loungein aroung the house. When the afternoon rolled around things started to get real busy. I took Layla for a walk then I had to drop her off at kelcies while I went to grab some pizza. My friend Dave had invited me to the hockey game tonight so I figured it would be nice to have some za before hand. The game was fun we ended up drinkin at the bar in the arena but it was a good time. From there we headed to a friends house in the area for some more beers. It was good to see him open up a bit he has been going through some relationship problems. After that we still made it to a bowling ally for a couple rounds. kelcie has a friend that works there so it was dirty cheap and bowling is always a good time in winnipeg. All in all alot of ground was covered tonight. I hope it doesnt hurt to bad tomorrow.

Running Again

Its nice being unemployed and still getting paid. I spent the day running around to the airport to get a camera charger which I forgot in Saskatoon. Luckily they found it and I got it back and it still works. On my way back I went and picked up a bonus check for work that I did back in November. That was also nice to have for the holidays. And I also picked up a license for my dog which I have been meaning to do for a couple months now.

It was a beautiful day and I could not wait to get out of the car to start running. I decided today I was going to practice some active living and run to the gym. So I packed a back pack and headed out. It was actually nice out for once and I ended up taking layers off to cool down. For some reason though I couldn't seem to keep my heart rate down. I don't know if it was the extra weight of the pack, the cold ground and loss traction, or the cold air effecting my lungs. I have never really noticed the air effecting my lungs but I really felt it this time. I have also never really trained using heart rate so it will be interesting to do a comparison.

Yoga for Power

Well it looks as though just because I said I was going to blog in the afternoons, I am busy in the afternoons. Go figure. Yesterday was good I spent the morning running errends doing some christmas shopping kept busy. Its good to be busy because an idle mind is the devils playground. I had to do a bike on tuesday and I was really looking forward to hopping on the trainer again. This session was an interval session and, the new purchuse came through again. The resistance was smooth all the way through the accelerations and it did not slip once. It truly is amazing technology.

I was pleased to find that after the workout, cycling did not agrivate my groin. I am hoping to be running again by thursday.

Today was busy, I made my self a decent breakfast. I really appreciate a good breakfast, and I havent cooked one for myself in a while. A friend texted me from school askin if I wanted to go do hot yoga. I figured the stretching would be good for the groin strain. It was awesome!! It was 90 mins of hot yoga I must have sweat out over a litre and I felt really energized after. From there I came home and headed to the dog park. Its the first day it has been nice in a while so we walked around for a while and got home just in time to head to swimming.

When it came time to head to the pool I felt loose, long, relaxed the perfect feeling for swimming. The rest of the swim went really well I was swimming in the top 2 and seemed to have lots of gas in the tank. The water was cooler today which also made things easier.

Noodle

Well Monday sure felt like Monday after that staff party. Although I must say my groin is feeling better. I spent them morning finalizing things with the accountant for the ski trip. The last time when some one else was running it there were some issues with the budget, but we seem to have things back under control. The other co-ordinarier and I then went for breakfast at a little hole in the wall downtown. They always have the best breakfasts. I had recently read that bacon is one of the best things for a hangover. My guess is its the salt which is helping you retain water. Needless to say I felt better after break fast.

I thought I would for sure need a nap in the afternoon. But I managed to stay busy around the house and stacked wood for a couple hours. Being Monday I swim with the club at pan-am. I push myself to swim in the fast lane, but I didn't know how I was gonna feel today. I am very touch when it comes to swimming. I must eat 2 hrs prior or I feel like I am gonna sink. I still wasn't feeling fully hydrated so I didn't know what to expect. To make things worse the water was warm....again. I hate warm water it makes me feel like a noodle. Cold water keeps me crisp and edgey.

I puttered my way through the warm up and actually felt surprisingly good. One of the main sets was a broken up 1500m. They asked if I wanted to lead. I said " Open bar staff party last night, I am a dragster today running on top fuel alcohol. I will probably die out." Although I did tire a bit nothing to to bad and me and the other top girl managed to hold 1:30s and lap the other two swimmers.

All in all by the end of the day I was feeling good.

What a weekend

Sunday was a night to be remembered. The day started with sorness in my inner thigh. I think its the cold and the dehydration form the alcohol. It got to the point were I wasnt gonna be runnin. I took the day off and just iced it. Which seemd to have payed off today.

At night it was the pantages staff party and its so weird but so much fun. Its a potluck and free booze. There is so much good food and so much free booze. By the end of the night I had my manager playing tippy cup against me and the other bar tender. A bottle of gin and case a beer later we decide to head to my buddy robs for a few more beers and some online poker( Won $10 bucks). And then finally called it a night at around 4:30.

I think I am going to move my blogging time to mid day, and I will talk about the previous day. Tring to squeeze it in at night is hard because I never know when it might end. But in the day I am inspired to write more because I am not about to fall alseep. I will try and get a pic of the trainer up tomorrow as well.

Indoors was actually enjoyable

In Winnipeg with the windchill last night tempuratures reached -48C. Which is jusst ridiculous. But its a good thing I picked up my new trainer on friday and I spend the evening getting the basement all set up for my first session.

So with a movie on and the sweat rag hooked up and some food I was ready to go. I have done a lot of reading about these trainers but this was the first time I would actually ever ride one. This was probabily the most excited I have been to ride inside since I got my rollers.

I started up and I was amazed at the road like feel of the trainer. It would fight as you increse speed but as you got up to speed it allowed you to sink into a groove, just as you would if you were cruiseing down the road. If I but it into the harder gears I found that it would actually provide enough resitance to push me out of the saddle. This trainer it really going to help me increase my power I am extremly happy with the purchuse. The other key feture I noticed was how incredibally quite it was. I actually had to turn the volume on the tv down because I had overestimated just how loud it was going to be.

As I was watching the movie I started to play mental games. Sprinting when there was a car seen and doing slow cadance power builds during intense discussion scenes. I was amazing how fast the 2 hours went by. I will be looking forward to watching movies and doing my long rides. I used to dred it but when you have the right equipment it can actully be very enjoyable.

Green Machine

Most of yesterday was spent driving. I had ordered my new bike trainer from the states and I had to go pick it up. It was worth it I saved a pile of money. Its the new Kurt Kinetic Road Machine. Its pretty sick. Its a fluid magnet trainer the resistance unit has two magnetic wheels in a fluid chamber and its the only trainer out there with no drive shaft. Another main feature is that the fluid in the trainer is actually liquid silicone and is thermodynamically neutral. Which means it does not become more viscous as you continue to ride and as it heats up. With this trainer it will not heat up and the resistance is consistent through out the entire workout.

I haven't had a chance to fully hammer on it yet but I will put in a better update when I do. In the afternoon I went for a freezing cold tempo run which felt pretty good most of the way but the cold air really began to take a beating on me after about 40 minutes.

I capped off the night playing poker with my friends, it was great, for the first time I made it to the top 3!! I played for free last night. I guess playing online is really payin off.

Calm

I felt very calm today I dont have much stress now. Its rather enjoyable. I spend the morning going over the budget for the ski trip coming up. It looks like I will be able to make it to banff again. Which is good cause I love riding out west.

I spent the afternoon cleaning out my vehicle and riding the rollers. I have gotten a lot better on them I can really feel my core starting to get strong again. I dont wiggle around as much. I can also feel the weights that I have been lifting starting to kick in I feel much more powerful.

Tomorrow will be spent going to the states to pick up my new toy. A kurt kinetic road machine. I cant wait to hammer a ride out on that thing.

Ok Back

I had my only exam today and for the last 3 days I have just been zoned out. Monday was wasted in a room but I still managed to blog. Yesterday nothing really happened and Kelcie asked me questions until I pretty much fell asleep.

Today was a true Winnipeg winter day. I was fucking cold. In the morning it was like -35 with the windchill and of course the car didnt start so I had to freeze my ass off and boost it.

I had wanted to get my workout in before my exam to help calm me but I ended up using all the time to study. Which is good cause I think the exam went well and I was able to swim after.

The swim felt good today I did a lot of pull. I am really trying to increase my turn over so I have been using the paddles. Its fun and new. Anyways I hope that since I am not forced to my room to study I will go have a little more fun.

Training as an equlibrium

Today if it was not for training I would not have much to talk about. Its the day after a weekend of hard drinking and I am being chased by the black dog. I guess that happens after 20-21 you dont just get hungover you get hungover and then midweek depression, haha I guess I see it as mental training.

I was up fairly early cause I went to bed early and got a solid nights sleep. I woke up well rested and fresh for monday. I spent the day studying and on my afernoon break I learned a new song on my gutiar. For the whole day I did not leave the house I barley ventured far from the computer. If it was not for swimming this blog would have to be about physical growth and aging/3200.

Anyways when I did go swimming I felt a little sore. My guess was it was from sitting in a chair hunched over books all day might have something to do with it. But when I got in the nice cold water of that training tank I was good to go. I felt strong I guess it was all the extra carbs. And I always have a drive to push through it if I feel off cause I enjoy going out and I dont want to let it effect training. Its a mental game I play with myself.

The rest of the swim went really well I am now swimming with the top 3 swimmers in the entire group. Last year at this time I was the slowest swimmer in the lane beside us. Not bad for one year of swimming. I swam a lot when I was younger so my stroke is decent but the power and fine tuning points just werent perfect. I had more running muscle. Now I feel I can get into the same groove as running while I am swimming. It feels good to have that centered feeling. Today training balance the day and it balanced my mind. What a great Monday.

Drink, Run, Party

Nothing could prepare me for the weekend that just happened. I was wondering on Friday why I was so fidgety. I spent most of the day Friday setting up everything for Cheif Sosore 1st Annual Beer Run. Inspired by The House Of Payne Beer Run I knew there was goning to be a high level of organization involved to get everyone motivated to run 5k. As the youth of today its not all in for physical activity.

This year I have done my fair share of races and I know what it takes to run one sucessfully. You have to think of everything from begining to end. So I had the course laid out with a pylon and road flares which were given to me from a friend and I also had a sign from the City of Winnipeg which read proceed with catioun road race in progress. Another key component was voulenteer help Kelcie was a huge help in tracking the time and keeping stuff clean. Others who did not wanna run also helped the race by slowing traffic at turn around points. We even had a pace car (with no time of course because it was prediction run).

But before the race started there was a christmas party friday night which I had to attend It was all the way out in Headingly Manitoba in the frickin middle of no where. And let me tell you country kids are crazy to say the least. There are no rules out there. They get hammered and then just drive to the next guys house. Needless to say it was a long night I think I got to sleep at about 6:30. And the beer run was in 8 hours.

I woke up at around 10....hammered grabbed a coffee and finished all the organization for the run. If it wasnt done now too bad cause the race is goin on now. I was a little worried about my performance cause I did not plan on drinking that much before hand. But as you know " At the time it just seemed like such a good idea". So to calm my nerves I went for a 5k warm up run haha.

Then people began to show up. the race was originally schduled for 2 in the afternoon but did not get under way till around 4. Which is fine I had anticipated that. I had a pre race meeting descrided the course and the seirs of events. Then it was time to blow the gun!

So we lit off a bunch of firecrackers and we were off. There were about 30 participants and everyone was laughing. At the start there were a few people ahead of me one of my buddies I used to train for half marathons with was running and determied to beat me but I reeled him in within the first km. The running was the easy part it was harder to drink the beer with the elevated hr. By the end out it I let out 2 self induced projectile vomits. I think there is some video it was good for a laugh.

During the race it was good to see everyone laughing and slappin high fives. And when the race was finished there was a real group sense of accomplishment. People were saying "shit we should do this every friday". And people that didnt even wanna run ended up doing 5k. Then we tapped the keg and the night really got started.

Awards were handed out for 1st 2nd 3rd male and female we also slowest run and person who needed most assitance which happined to be my half marathon buddy who threw up multiple times. And could not finish his last beer, well he did but his total time for the run was 1 hour 20 minutes.

It was a ton of work but it never went unoticed everyone came up and said thanks to me, and what an amazing job I did and how much fun they were having. Unknowingly my friends all chipped in a bought me a huge cake which was also an amazing suprise.

We stayed at the house till around 10 socialing and drinking beer from the keg. Running on 3 hrs of a BKO sleep and 2 keg stands later we decided to hit the bar. On the way there I actually called my friend Uncle Brian Payne in Toronto and he called me back this morning to tell me i just left him a message of jibberish. I guess I get an E for effort. There is no need to go into detail there it just got sloppy and we ended up taking rednose home. I was gonna run today but I realized it would really just be an ego thing so I have opted out and taken the day to study for an upcoming exam. Since my trithlon season is not even close to started.

Thank You to everyone that participaed and I hope to see you all next year!!

Tidy Up To Get Sloppy.

Since I plan on pretty much writing this weekend off I am working on getting as much done now as possible. So this morning I printed off a couple of sheets to help me organized the things I need. Then I went for a run cause I knew I would not get home till later. The run was good but it is now officially cold! I think its safe to say its gonna stay that way so no more skimping out on dressing up.

I left the house at 11 and I knew I wasn't gonna be back for a while. The first stop was a hair cut. I arrived early so I went the the store next door and got some stuff for the party. I then got the chop. I like my hair dresser he always makes it look good. Which is good cause I never really tell him what I want I just say cut it and make it look good. You cant do that at the mall but he is good at what he does.

Feeling fresh I needed to make a stop by the university and check some things to do with the ski trip and have some lunch with Kelcie. My downtown adventures were capped off with a doctors appointment. From there I needed to get home cause the dog had been in the back room all day and needed a walk. I enjoy walking the dog it is very relaxing, very calming... usually. But today was freezing not that it matters to the dog she just loves to be out side.

Now I am just stressing about the things I need to get tomorrow so I should probably go make a list.

Staying Productive

Today being a Wednesday I have a three hour class in the evening so I have to get my workouts done in the day. I spent the morning playing with the new dremal tool my dad bought. I filed back the drop outs on my cannondale fixed gear. I just bought a color matched chain I am gonna have to post some pics. Anyways I got the chain real tight and was also able to maintain good alignment.

By the time I was finished with that I headed to school cause I had plans for a more time consuming workout. On the way to school I saw a guy riding a motorcycle..... No helmet...... In a t-shirt! its Dec 2 I guess he just wanted the last ride. He looked well over 50 to. Haha Some people age so well.

The downtown YMCA has really grown on me. I never wait for a lane, the water temp is good, and they have accurate timing clocks. I had a good swim I really feel I am becoming more efficient.

After the swim I followed it up with a weight session. Which also went really well. My body is really taking well to getting back into lifting weights. In the summer I didn't do much weight lifting because of work taking away a lot of time.

Then I had my last class this semester it was good I just need a good exam mark now and I am laughin. The night ended playin poker with the guy. Which I am also gettin better at.

Preparing for winter

In Winnipeg winter is bad real bad. The temperatures are disgusting we get a bunch of snow but no where to snowboard, it gets blown off the prairies and forms drifts which always makes it hard for the snowmobile rs. It is awful. So I spent most of the day setting up my training gear, and cleaning out the car for winter. Brought up all my winter running clothes, took the battery out of my summer truck, cleaned the garage for the party this weekend and ordered a new trainer for my bike(which I will have to take pictures of when it arrives)!!!

All in all I managed once again to stay fairly productive. My cycle last week was probabily the last one I will fit in out side this year today I moved down stairs and used the rollers for a quick workout. It is not riding outside but it was more enjoyable then last year. Last year I was really struggling to get into the groove but now training is just part of my life and it is no longer a hassle to squeeze in. I hope to keep it that way.

Good Bloggers

Today I read some really good blogs. Some people put ons of effort into these blogs. I cant or just dont want to afford the time to spend on writing a huge blog. But I go have lots of respect for those that do, there creativity amazes me. I got everything really organized today because this weekend is going to be a busy one. I am having my real birthday party this weekend. Its going to be an iron drinking weekend. I cant wait.

The swim today was nice a lot nicer then last weeks swim. The water was cool and made for an enjoyable swim. The only issue I ran into was having trouble breathing because I had had some greasy food earlier that after noon. My body has become quite picky with the swimming routine, and even tough I think I can beat it or change it... I cant.

Post Birthday

Well another year has past. For some reason this was the first year were the birthday really didn't mean much. 22 is not really a significant age like 16 or 18 its just another year. I spent the day doing normal things went for breakfast went for a run and went to work. On Saturday I worked a show for little kids it was called little bear. To little kids everything is amazing. They get an ice cream and they are thrilled!! Its amazing, I wonder where that goes when you age??. Lately I have even lost track of the days, not that it really matters what day it is anyways because either way you just gotta keep moving forward and stay positive. Otherwise you will get stuck in a rut.

I don't even know where the year has gone I cant believe its been a year already since I have started this. Man the time really starts to fly. But I guess life is like that.

Pre birthday

Haha its actually my birthday now but I felt like pretending I wrote this prior to my actual birthday. It was a fast day today. It seemed as though right after I got up I was at work. It was pantages so it wasnt that bad. That is probabilay the easiest job I have ever had. I enjoy going to that job. I made my way to the gym after my shift it, which I find is always interesting. Those body builders always amaze me they do one set and then stand and talk for like 10 minutes. I find it hilarious, I don't know I enjoy sweating like crazy and gettin tired its fun. I did something different tonight and went to a techno show. It was fun I like jammin to that its very free spirtied its like a bunch of new age hippies. HAHA

Tred Sweats

Lately I have really been enjoying running. I think its because of the full sleeps I have been able to get. My body is able to truly recover. I chose to do my workout today on a tredmill. Here in Manitoba hills are few and far between. Although I do not like running on a tredmill it can provide an incline.

Todays treadmill run was very enjoyable. It started with an interval session and then moved to a tempo run. By the end of it was was drenched in sweat. It felt like I was covered in endorphins. I haven't had a run like that in a while. It felt really good to just sweat it all out.

Learning To Age

Today was rather uneventful. I brought my dog to my girlfriends for the night and that dog loves to cuddle and shes like a furnace. So it was nice to wake up warm in the morning. The rest of the day was not really all that eventful, coffee, took computer in for a fix, then work out and then to class.

The class I am taking now is called "physical growth and aging". So far I have found it to be fairly negitive. You get old everything degenerates and you die. Its just the way it is you have to accept it. We talk a lot about health issues and disease. Today was about motivating people to exercise. For me its a non issue but for others it is unusual to exercise in a day.

This spawned a thought about choices. Many things in life are enjoyable most are not healthy, sweet food, burgers, gettin drunk every now and then, some people enjoy smoking. You make all your own choices in life. If you choose to smoke dont be surprised if you get a lung infection. I chose to do triathlon. There are lots of benifits to triathlon, but if training is not done properly you can cause serious damage as well.

Anyways what I am getting at is there is a huge fear around body image health disease aging blah blah blah. When really just look at your choices. If you make good ones and something happens then o well it happned now fix it. If you made a bad choice and something happens well that was your choice. So from now on I choose to have a positive presence around people, and I am gonna worry less about the future, cause there is nothing I can do to change it, I can only make the right choices in the moment.

Terrific Tuesday

Today was terrific! Mcdonalds has free coffee for this whole week. Since I love coffee in the first place its a bonus that its free. After that I totally cleaned out my room which has been piling up with clothes, training notes, and old school work. It felt really good to de clutter.

From there I headed out on my cycle for the day. In Winnipeg at this time it is usually very cold. But this year we have had amazing weather. Today I rode in normal fall gear and was more then comfortably warm. Again the time seemed to go but quickly, I guess thats what its suppose to feel like when your fit.

When all this was done I still had time to make it to the dog park.

Cant beat the heat

Today was productive compared to the last few day. I was up early and was able to meet my mom for some coffee. We chatted it was good we haven't done that in a while. Then I helped Kelcie's mom moves some stuff because there grandmas is switching houses. Once that was done I finally figured out the stereo problem in my car that has been bugging me for the last few days. Me and Layla went for a drive and a walk after that.

Then there was the swim. On Mondays I swim with a club. The practices are help at the old pm am games pool. Its a very nice pool. The training tank is usually nice and cold, one time it was so cold my hands started to get numb. Today the water was not cold, it was not even some what cold, it was warm. I guess since the last couple of swims I have had have been strong and enjoyable. Today was a bit of a push, I felt like a rubber noodle in the water. It felt good to be done today, there was no euphoric connection with the water today.

Last night was yet another late night, I think I got to be around 4. It was worth it though playin cards with the guys. I had to make a run to grab some milk cause on lsd days I do like to eat a it before I run. That food really ended up paying off because I had an amazing run. I really zoned out and had endless amounts of power. I guess thats what a bunch of good sleep will do to you.

After the run Kelcie and I celebrated our 2 Years together. We went for some Vietnimese, It was different but good. We then capped the evening watching a movie. It was nice because we havent had time in a while to do that.

Conquering The Partey

Well last night was a late one as I can see from when I posted. So it was a late start to the day as well. I rolled outta bed around noon and slowly had some breakfast and a coffee. Last night was fun Robs house is always fun, its very relaxing they are very excepting people and it is really easy to be yourself there. He just got a new computer with windows 7. I must say its an improvement from this vista garbage. More on computer news the desktop here at home has called it quits. Right now I am blogging with my laptop plugged into a 48 inch LCD tv. Its pretty awesome.

This week I noticed I have my first follower. Its Bryan Payne, Bryan has had a blog of his own for years now and it has become quite popular. Its what inspired me to start this one. Now since there is a follower I feel obligated to come up with better blog posts as well as blog more consistantly.

One thing Bryan is good at is conquering the party. When I say that I mean not only having fun at the party but waking up and hammering out a workout the next day. Bryan was saying when he was training for his full ironman's on the long runs his companians would think that the booze smell coming off him was his colone. Anyways today I conqured the Party cause I hammered out a set on spinnervals on the bike at the gym as well as an extensive weight workout. It felt really good to just get soaked in sweat and really get the heart rate up!!!

Rob

I slept in today. I dunno why but I did and it felt good. I then grabbed the morning coffee and piked Kelcie up from school. After that I made my way home to work on my car which eventually frustrated me so much I had to go for a run.

the weather here has been ridiculous lately. 2 weeks ago I would have worn full winter gear to go cycling and today I ran in shorts! Its Nov 20 in Winnipeg. I had a great run though felt really relaxed and i was really focused.

The night was evenually capped off at my friend Robs. Rob is a unique guy and me and him have built up an extremly solid friendship. I have even stayed at his place for a month when he was outta town.

It all started in 2nd year university I had three night classes with him intro chem intro chem lab and philosophy. I knew that this guy had some stories. Eventually me and a friend started goin there for beers and such is life we are where we are now. I dont go there as often although I should Its a great vibe and its really comforable. Hence why I am writng at 4 am.

Anyways I am gonna use what left of tonight to sleep.

Time flys

I managed to keep busy all day again today. Started with coffee and then headed to an interview for a seasonal job. Then I picked up a check from green drop. Which I must say I am gonna have to go argue about. Then back home to start the cycle.

I farted around the house for about an hour before I suited up and got going. Once I finally did get out there I was amazed at how the time flew by. I took a new route today and the 2 hours flew by. It was an amazing day for a cycle with minimul wind which is odd for the praries but it was good to take advantage of it.

Funemployed

So I have now been unemployed for almost 2 weeks. And I must say it has been relaxing. I think of it as being funemployed I get to workout when I feel ready and catch up on everything I have been letting slip for the past little while.

Tuesday I had scheduled myself to do a long ride but the winds had picked up to 40 again and cycleing in that is just not enjoyable and there were other things I could do that day. So I chose to run. Even running the wind was still effecting me it was so strong running in to the wind felt like running up a hill. And that was in the bush!! I finished the day off with a weight session and then took it easy.

Wednesday was busy I had lots errends to run. I had a meeting at school about the snowboard association. Then I headed to the pool for a lunch hour swim. Met up with my cousin and then I had class till 8:30. The evening ended at the local bar the villa which is always fun.

Adhesion

Well since I don't have a scheduled job I have found it hard to wake up at any specific time. I just sleep until my body tells me its good to go. Its nice I need it I have be grinding myself for the last 4 years with no extended break and its nice to have the ability to just recover. My workouts have been more productive as well. Its amazing what quality rest will do.

Without a job I try to keep busy with other things. I have done a lot of stuff I have been meaning to do around the house, organized the beer run and also have become active again with the ski trip. Its good I am relaxed and very productive.

Today's workout was a swim with the triathlon Manitoba club. I have now been swimming with them for just over a year and have really begun to see drastic improvements in my swimming, in both my speed and output effort. Last year I moved from the rec swimmers lane up to the faster lane and then all the way to the fastest lane. I would get lapped in this lane but it was better then lapping the other guys in the other lane. But today was different, today I was one of the fast swimmers. Not only did I not get lapped I was keeping up, I was on there toes. I think I have just become efficient at swimming. Not only because I was keeping up, but because at the end of the sets I was not totally gassed. I mean dont get me wrong its a workout but I felt like I was being productive and not like I was just tring to make it through. I was connect to the water, we had an adhesive relationship.

Greasy Run

It was a tough weekend of workouts and I was able to squeeze all of them in as well as time with friends and taking in the santa claus parade. haha. Friday I hung out with my friends and took it easy. Saturday I had a brick to do and I wasnt really looking forward to it but it was so nice out side it was hard not to enjoy myself.

The day ended with a fish fry at Kelcies dads place and a trip downtown to the santa clause parade. I havent been to that in so long and it was amazing how many people showed up.

Today all I had left to do was a long run. It took me most of the morning to get ready and when I did start running it felt like I was sweating grease HAHA. All the grese was out after about 6 miles and from there on it was a good run.

Home for A Rest.

We= Davis and Chad

Well to say the least we DID Vegas. From the moment we showed up to the moment we left it was eventful. I will try to recap as much as I can on here but this blog will only be good enough to breifly recall the memories as vegas is an experiance that can not be expressed through words.

Wednesday Arrival Day:

Well it was up at 4:30 and off to the airport for what was going to be an amazing 5 days. We made it through all the security and caught the flight the people on the plane were fun and the time went by fast. In denver we grabbed a quick Mc breakfast and caught the transfer flight. This one was a little less eventful but also much shorter. From there it was all Vegas baby. We checked out bags at the hotel at 10AM and we had to burn time till 4. So we did what anyone would do got players cards and started to gamble. But when you gamble in vegas drinks are free!!! So we got pissed and had fun. Got into the room at 4pm and relaxed and set up and changed and got out by about 6. From there we had a few more drinks and hopped a limo to the Stratosphe. Where when we walked in it was all you can drink for 20 bucks. So we sat down pay 20 bucks and got pissed. Then on our way up to the rides we stopped in for a quick Oxygen treatment at the oxygen bar. Then we hit all the rides the spinnning on the drop one and the Drop of doom one. By this time I think it was Thursday was I will start a new day.

Thursday starting at 12AM

From the stratosphere we went to the strip club. Which to say the least was greasy. WE got back to the hotel around 3 and grabbed a quick bite at the bar. We hit the sack around 5:30. Up again at 7:30 Chad and I decided to Hit SEMA. When we arrived Our minds exploded. The cars were undescibible and only pictures can do some justice. We even got taken for a ride in a vette with a professional driver. When we got back to the hotel I went for a run then we met up with everyone else and went out again to explore the strip. So we walked we drank we gambled. Then we met up with my aunt and uncle at Margaritaville that was fun. From there we continued to walk and gamble and have fun. Untill about 5 in the morning again.

Friday:
Up by 10 and back at SEMA by noon we spent the day there and even met Travis Pastrana. We got back to the hotel went for a swim in the pool cause it was a bomby 30 degrees celcius and then went out yet again to hit the town. This time to a Piano Bar where we had the whole crowd lovin us. Air Drums Air gutiar and even some people from saskatoon.

Saturday:
This was the only day were we had some recovery. Took it easy in the day and went shopping at the outlet mall. That took a better part of the day. I grabbed a couple hours after that then it was back to the strip for a final night of good times. We made our way to old vegas. And back to the Rio were I played craps won and got drugged.

Sunday:
I hadnt slept since some time saturday after noon and we caught the plane at 7 am it was a long trip home. Its good to be home for a rest.

Monday:
Write off I slept till 3 went for a drug test and then went for a swim.

All night

Last night was good arrived home from toon town did a quick interval workout on the rollers and was off to the bar with Kelcie to see a band. I bought the first round of beers and threw the change in the vlts and ended up winning all my money back so that was nice.

I was able to sleep a bit this morning which was nice although when I went to the washroom to take my morning pee Kelcies dad walked in and scared the crap out of me ha ha.

After that fiasco I made it home and headed out for a quick tempo run. I love runnning at this time of year it is the perfecet temperature, and it felt really good to go fast.

Now my day is capped off by working an all night rave at pantages. Ugh tomorrows workouts will be tough.

What a crazy trip!!! Between meeting dave at blockbuster and going to the blades game it was needless to say unbelieveable. Chad and I ran the show out there it was amazing. And all we did was have way too much fun. We were in the honney moon suite and we just had an absolute party. We also stayed at my uncles on the way home. He is a beauty just the best host.

While I was in saskatoon i ate like a pig and still got a 2000m swim in and a 30 min bike + weights. I will have to write more with chad later.

Tom tom

Last night ended up going late for me. Didn't end up hittin the sack till about 2 if not later and I was up again before 8 to help my mom and aunt out at the gym. That was an experiance in itself, my mom is like a kindergarden child. Whats this o look at him hes strong...... so embarassing. However my aunt was focused and had a great workout.

After the gym I hoped on the bike and started out on the long ride. Today was much better then last week started into a mild head wind and then at the turnaround there was a nice push on the way back. I made it the whole way to the bridge to nowhere and back it was good to conquer that cause i got beat last week.

After the ride I quickly packed for Saskatoon and then went to work. Tonight was interesting it was fairly calm until a guy named tom came up. Tom was drinking rhum and coke and tipped 5 dollars on every round. Tom made the night and ended up giving us around $40. All in all a great day.

I didn't work my day job today but for some reason it was still an incredibly busy day. I was woken up by a phone call to go for coffee which i could not turn down. After coffee I was able to make it out for a quick run which was really enjoyable. Then it was off for some food. Had lunch with my old boss from the city, that was interesting. Then after that I went straight to the pool for a moderate swim and from there straight to work.

Work was good John Prine. Some old country singer. Who cares made a bunch of money in tips which me and the other bar tender blew on booze right after the show hahahahahahah.

The Elderly

The morning started with my favorite part of the day which is coffee. Coffee was followed by a quick dog walk. I have been asked to go back to toon town so I had to observe a seniors class for the class I am in. I dunno if I could ever work with seinors all day. They are fun but everything moves at the pace of a turtle. I got some god information but i am not looking forward to gettin old.

After that was done I went to work laying sod. I enjoy labour it makes you feel good at the end of the day.

When I got home a squeezed in a quick cycle to lockport and back it was good my legs felt a bit tight I am assuming its from moving all the sod. I tried to make it back before dark but its a good thing i strapped a light on cause I did come home in what was almost pitch black.

Busy

Shit I didn't blog yesterday I am a slacker. I didn't even notice I forgot. The days might as well all be one big day I cant tell the differance anymore. What did I do yesterday??? I dunno I worked in the morning then eventually made my way to the gym for a bike run and a weight session. After that I went to the movie where the wild things are that was one of my favorite books as a kid. The movie turned out really well too.

Today well today was just as busy as yesterday I worked in the morning blowing out sprinkler systems with my friend its interesting work fairly easy but interesting. After the houses started getting spaced out we called it a day. around 1 or so. It was a good thing to because from the second I walked in the door I pretty much did not get off the phone. I was tring to set up appointments to observe a class for an assignment i have due. and it has to be done before the weekend because i am heading back out to Saskatoon on Sunday.

With my absent mind I also managed to forget my keys in the work truck. Little did I know this would kick me in the ass later. When I got home after my night class I could not get in the house not only that I went to get my girlfriends set of keys only to realize that they were on my key ring as well. Fuck I need to pay attention.

Brain off Swim on

For some reason I just keep finding work. Suppouseitly there is or was a recession going on and it is suppose to be hard to find a job. In the last month I have gotten laid off from the city, then went to Saskatoon to work for green drop for a week. When I got back from there I worked at green drop for a week. And when that was done I now have started working with my friend who has his own business, and i might be getting sent back out of town for work.

Todays work was blowing the water out of sprinkler systems. It was interesting work kinda fun walking around and finding the boxes in the yards. Its just good to be up and moving all day rather then sitting in a chair.

I decided because I finallly had time and because it wasn't a holiday to go and swim with the triathlon swim club. I like swimming with the club its exciting. Throughout becoming a triathlete swimming has really grown on me. I no longer have an issue swimming by myself. It used to bore the hell out of me but I dont mind it now. Anyways the advantages of swimming with the club are you try about 3x as hard the workouts are planned and you dont even have to count the laps if you swim behind someone. Its great as you swim brain off swim on thats all you have to do its really good for a higher intensity workout.

Be Greatful

When you train everyday you really get to know your body. You also learn when it functions best yada yada yada. Some workouts such as yesterdays are just absolutly aweful some are great and some stay with you and you even think of them while your racing.

Today started out good I had a good sleep and I was not rushed in the morning it was a relaxing start for once. It was a beautiful day out today, and Kelcie pulled me along to a spirtual conferance. I am spirtually open minded so I was curious to see what was involved.

When we arrived right away I noticed that the energy in the room was over whelming. Very powerful positive energy I felt invigorated. We first watched a guest speaker she was good she talked about being calm when life gets hectic. Also to listen internally to your intuition which we do not do enough of.
I also got my cards read today. That was very powerful and eye opening.

After we were done there I went to Kelcies and took a quick nap. Then finally at around 6 I made it out on my long run. Todays run was different it was effortless the entire time and I was running at what I thought was a great pace. The entire run I just felt strong. And I just got stronger the more I ran. I ran the last few miles at about a 6:40 pace which for me is pretty good.

When the run was finished needless to say I was amazed. All I could do was be grateful for that amazing experiance.

Goin Cruzin

Somedays are bad days some days are good ones and some are just epic. Today was an epic day. It started out with a sleep in because of the party last night. I then quickly got on to the bike for a 2.5 hr ride. I turned around to come back and I couldnt make it back in time for work so I had to get picked up. The wind was 40 gusting 60 and it was not even enjoyable and the its not vital to be pushing yet either.

I worked pantages tonight. Still my favorite job. Anyways it was a comdey fundraiser and there were raffle prizes. I had a good night in tips and my girlfriend talked me into buying a few tickets. I put them in the big draw. When the numbers came I looked at them and went to the theathre to check them with Kelcie. The numbers looked familer. I had to do a double check. So I did and we were one number off so i asked kelcie if she had one more ticket. And we had the fuckin winning ticket. Davis and Kelcie won a trip to the carribian!!

We capped the night off by celebrating with my drunk mom and aunt and my other stoned aunt. What a life. Its a Good Life

Iron party

I loved my job today. Awesome day. Just do work. Got to work and straight to coffee with chad with a corrot muffin. It was very tasty. I only had 24 lawns to do and I went and saw bear at lunch. Bear is my dog layla. but when she was a puppy i snuggled her everyday and now she loves hugs and she is a little bear.
After taking bear for a walk I needed to hit the pool. The pool is always full of weirdos. Its amazing how many people have a awful stroke. I mean I am not michel pheps but my stroke is watchable.
Once that was done it was off to a party in which was a good expreiance. I have to keep reminding myself its the off season. all in all good times.

Souviners

Making a change:
today was very different from on of my typical days. It started out with a trip to the doctors office. Thus resulting in me finally expressing my hatred for the world. Apparently like everything else in the worlds, they have a drug for world hatred to. Im hoping it can be applied to the ego as well. See, i guess underneath what i admit to people, i believe that dealing with this stuff will make me a over all better athlete. Well here goes nothing.
After this excursion went fo breakfast with sharon and then to the gym for a two hour work out. Bike, run and weights. The gym is where all the "pinky" half of all the "pinkies and the brains" meet. A whole lot of testrone and some ridiclus attitudes in a room with a man in tigght shorts????
after this kelcie and i went for sushi and to Souviners (a play). The sushi was to die for... all you can eat there is no other way to do it. And the play.... it was funny.. who dosent like a chezck dad who gets high? The overall message is souviners isnt what you have but what you take with you when you leave. Weather physical or not.
Thats what a perscripton is to today: a souviner of a chance at happiness. Happiness the key to sucess in all ironmen's goals!

Run for relief

So I thought work would be relaxing today go in do my lawns go home. Instead I go in and boss says I am going with him to shovel dirt I though o fuck. Turns out we waste most of the day and also he is a cool guy to talk to. We talked about everything from metal to his wedding it was truly bizzare. By the end of the day I felt like we were best friends.

I then studied a bit more for my upcoming test today. The test went well I thought. I only got stumped on one long answer. I hate multiple choice I cant ever choose the right answer.

After the test was over I got my first paper from that class back. The mark a D! A fuckin D. What a bitch. even if the paper was weak it was not that weak. I really fuckin hate school it takes a lot of effort and offers really nothing in return.

Anyways I was so stressed out about this I needed to run when I got home I did not care how far, or for how long, I just needed to open up my arteries a bit.

Thanks Bud.

Today was a great day. A lot better then I thought it would be. This is why I need some help..... Anyways went into green drop this morning and they had routes for chad and I so I guess I have a job for a little while longer. The day fired up with mine and Chads usual tims coffee.

It was great and then i started hammering out lawns. I ended up completing 45 lawns by 12:30. Totally relaxing job sometimes. Didn't see any public all day. Went to aunts for lunch and then met Chad back at the shop.

I was home by 4 and had a good couple hours to study before I hit the pool. I also bought a car today. Its a 92 tercel, its fun, really good on gas and it will get me through lots of training.

I got to the pool around 7:45 cause lap swimming starts at 8. Little did I know they dont take payment till exactly 8. That pissed me off I argued a little with the clerk, but she was really dumb.

I had a good swim felt fairly powerful for the course of the workout. I was barley able to take a break enable to finish cause I barley had an hour if I even got the full hour.

After swimming I had to make a run to Kelcies to grab her cell phone charger. Only her dad was home cause his girlfriend gets hammered and paints ridiculous pictures to flood the walls and the basement of the house. Anyways I went in and said hey, he was tinkering in the basement. Anyways I grabbed the charger and was heading out when he asked if I was going upstairs. I said ya and he asked if I could take a ladder up I said sure and he said thanks bud. It was right then I realized he really does like me. Kelcie always says that I never believe her. But I have known Ken for a while now and the way he said it he actually likes me. Hes super chill talkin to me and always makes sure I eat. haha what a great guy.

Time to hit the sack. But what a day, and I thought I would have nothing to talk about.

Thrid time is a charm

I thought I would be productive today and hammer out homework walk the dog cycle and do it all. Instead it was a slow morning I barley studied before I got fed up and hopped on the bike. I am a terrible student. I hate studying I am aweful at it i get side track by anything even if there is nothing in the room. Kelcie is a great studier she usually forces me to study and I try to use it as motivation but I i just really hate studying.

Anyways so I got fed up of sitting at that fucking desk and I suited up and hit the road. The ride started out good I was tired but at least it was nice out. I had trouble maintaining my usual speeds I guess I was finally gassed from the 2 prior workouts. During the summer i had cycled through some shitty weather but nothing like i was about to encounter. Out of nowhere I found myself in a snowstorm and the road was covered in slush. At this point I yelled at the earth and turned around. the ride back was freezing. When I got home I hopped in the rollers cause I am not one to let a workout go unfinished. The bomber game was on so i got into that and the time went fairly smoothly.

Blur

Well saturday night was fun ended up at a classic Winnipeg wedding social. The food at this one was unbeleiveable pizza pasta perogies they really went all out. It was a fun evening Kelcie and I got fairly drunk but didn't realize it till we got back home. I was kinda funny.

Sunday seemed like saturday I had difficulty differing the two. I woke up and had breakfast at Kelcies. I knew I had to work but I thought it was at 5:30 good thing I checked my email cause I had to be there at noon!!! So I suited up and rode my fixie. It felt good I havent ridden it in a while it was nice and man do my legs hurt today.

I missed my job at pantages it is one of the best jobs I have ever had I cant believe they pay me. Anyways I cycled home and went straight into a run. I had a great run to. The lack of excercise on that trip must have helped.

The night was capped off by watching my brother play. He called me after the game it was good to talk to him. Ever since he moved away him and I have become alot closer. He is really livin the dream out there. Plays hockey gets paid and trains that it. He said he gets homesick but there are always people here for him to talk to.

Thinkin

I am a thinker. I think way to much. I wish it would stop. Today was a sad day there was a service for my girl friends grandfather. I only briefly met him but he was an amazing man. He was very sharp unlike most elders whom let there mental capabilities slip. I never really got to experiance his love and compassion but he was very kind to me and just one of the most interesting people to talk to.

My girlfriend Kelcie made and absolutely amazing speech. I was compassionate and it reached out to every single person in the building. She mentioned how her grandfather was so organized and attentive. She doesn't give herself enough credit to how organized and attentive she is as well.

The speech touched me because I know how much she cared for her grandfather and how much he cared for other people. My brain is always turning. Most of the time in the wrong direction. Listening to this speech really made me focus on how much do I care for others??? Not enough. It just saddens me the person I have become. I have always tried to just do the right thing. Help people when they need it, stay healthy, keep working and work hard, Save money, when your out don't be frugal. I always thought by doing these thing life would work out.

So I started thinking why am I not happy??? I do all these things. My life is in order. There are millions out there that have it worse. Why am I not happy??? I thought and thought and I could not find an answer. I have a doctors appointment on
wednesday and it is now time to finally ask my doctor about medications.

Livin the dream

Chad and I are livin the dream. No parents no boss no girlfriends livin the dream. Its unreal we work 7-6 everyday and party hard. What an amazing trip so far. It has really healed me mentally. No more alsers either. Weve gone to fuddruckers twice whatever. Work is great took the ride on out today.

Chad and I locked ourselves outta the shop today. That was super scary. We tried freezing and picking the lock but we were unsucsessfull. Luckeliy we were able to find the property owner and get the door open.

The day was capped off with an attempted run. I tried running but we are in a business area it was snowing and just plain dangours i ran 4 miles and tried to take it inside but the treadmill could not handle my speed. I tried as hard as possible and right now its just not worth the push.

The radio here in saskatoon is ridiculous. Its like 10 songs on repeat. One song in particular has become the song of the trip. Mylie Syrus Party in the usa 'put my hands up, there singing my song, partys not goin away yeaaaaaaaa theres a party in the USA". Its hilarious.

Work was good today we worked long and hard.I counld not get a groove goin today. I was outta sync all day. I knew I needed to work out later today.

For lunch we went to fudruckers. This burger place you can make your own burgur. It was insanly american. It was pack with fatties you could order a 1 lb burger it was stupid. Good burgers though.

After a hard days work I was able to make it to the pool. It was good cause my ymca card from winnipeg worked out here. So free swimmin. I just did a qiuick on cause i am not pushin any more i learnt my lesson i dont need to be gettin sick now. Your race schdule is set.

After the work out chad and i went for wings. They were unbelable. When we got back in the truck i said it was a 1 in 9 chance that the song would be on. I start the truck and what do you know? That fuckin song is on. ahahaha

What an amazing day

Thats it

Thats it! I have pushed to hard for no reason. Since wednesday I have not felt well and I have pushed through a 2 hour cycle and a 1.5 hour swim because I thought the weekend would bring rest and rejouvination. It did not...

Today I ran the CIBC run for the cure. It was my girlfriends first 5k group run or race. Although this run isn't timed its still has a set course and there are 5000 people so its like a race. My girlfriend Kelcie used to be a smoker but she hasn't smoked now for over a mounth and she RAN this 5k which before was un thinkable for her. I am really proud of her for doing it. She did awesome and said she felt great after. She beat all the girls she was running with and when she took on this challange she didn't even know if she could make it the whole way.

My run on the other hand was aweful. I had plans to finish the run and then just continue on and run home to make for an easy 10-11 mile lsd. But 10 mins into the run I was having extremly wet coughs and I was coughing up flem. I have not had a run this unenjoyable in a long time. Thats when I decided Davis this is ridiculous it is just the start of the off season and you are pushing like you are 10 weeks into a peak plan. Give your head a shake.

So for the next couple of days I am gonna lay low sleep well and drink lots of tea and hopfully this will run its course and I can ease back into things again. The only excercise I will continue to focus on is swimming. The motto of "use it or lose it" applys STRONGLY to swimming.

Noticed

Photobucket

A lot of the time I will go through my day un noticed. I work by myself I train by myself and by that time its usually time for bed. But today for some reason I was noticed. My boss noticed how hard I worked all summer and gave me an out standing review, and two people at the pool noticed me.

One of them was a man who looked to be in his forties asked me what I was training for so we talked about triathlon. He was a runner who couldnt swim, I recommended he swim at pan am on mondays, as it did wounders for me.

The other person was a elder lady with a stronger accent who stopped me in between one of my sets. "are you a speed swimmer?" she asked. I said "no I do triathlon"."how long does that take?" she asks. "4 to 6 hours" i said. " you are very fast" i said thank you.

I feel like garbage and I have been forcing training the last 3 days. Tomorrow I wanted to do a brick but instead I will just take the day to actually try and recover.

Good Purchuse

Photobucket

I made a great purchuse today. I bought myself a pair of louis garneau booties, and they are warm. It was 12 degrees when I started out and about 9 degrees when I finished and it also started to rain. But my feet were toasty.

Last year at this time there is no way I would have gone for a cycle that long in this weather. It just shows what a years worth of training will do to your mental thresholds. There were lots of times over the course of the last year when I pushed myself farther then I had ever gone and it takes your metal threshold and bumps it up one notch. This is another one of those rides.

Use it Or lose it!

Going to school full time sucks. But taking one class and working and getting paid is not so bad. The class I am taking is physical growth and aging. We had a guest speaker today some Dr. that I thought was gonna be super boring. Anyways he was fairly interesting. He was blunt and I liked that. One of the first things he said was your gonna get older things are gonna get bad accept it. There is no such thing as golden years. He then went into some physiology, and other diseases, with the main point that being healthy now is vital to good health at old age. We watched a video on nuns who stayed active physically and mentally. Some lived over 100! Anyways it is so so important that you not only stay physically active but mentally as well. My mom bought me a book today its on of Lance Armstrong's "Every Second Counts". After attending this class I am motivated to read it. This will help me get through rest days I will relax and read knowing I am still excersing my brain.

Instant

Well I don't know what happened to fall but just like summer it never came. I guess what was suppose to be summer was fall. On the weekend I would have considered running in a singlet and this morning it was -5.

Overall it was a good day fairly relaxing started out tractor cuttin then got sent back to the regular gig. So I went and did homework for an hour. After that I went bootie shopping because the next ride I will be wearing long pants booties and a jacket.

Todays workout went well, it was a set of intervals 1 on 1 off 2 on 1 off 3 on 1 off 4 on 1 off x3. It was tuff but once my hr was up and in the zone it felt good to keep it there. I look forward to running all day and I fantazise about it at work so it was good to get out and hammer. Burning the extra cals doesnt hurt either cause its getting colder and I am already starting to get carb cravings.

Good Things

Crazy things happened today, most of them good. First off I walked into work and it was cold and windy so I wasn't gonna be doing my regular job. The seasons seriously change in one day here its ridiculous. Because of the weather I was put on a tractor in a closed cab getting paid more to cut grass with a/c, heat, and a radio! Then my friend calls me tells me about an awesome money making oppertunity! And to Cap it all off I had a good swim. So many days have gone by where it is hard to write about things but today was full of great things to write about. I cant wait for coffee and a muffin tomorrow!

Its Time

Its Sunday time for the lsd. I was suppose to meet up with a friend for it but he backed out which is fine by me cause my legs were toast anyways. I headed in my usual shorts and shirt it looked sunny out. But wow you can sure feel that October is just around the bend. It is still shorts weather but could use a long sleeve shirt. I dunno if it was the cold or the salt from the popcorn last night but at the start of the run I was seeing black patches. It was weird but it went away. My legs were tired today which is good means I had a good brick the other day. But I noticed my right foot was getting sore under the arch, I think it was cause I was running on some un even surfaces because it subsided when I stuck to the concrete. It was nice to get early cause it left me to have the whole day to just relax. I went and applied at a local bike shop for winter work. I hope they consider the application it would be a dream workin in a bike shop. I would get to tinker all day!!

Being Fit

Today was a hectic day, its the weekend but it sure doesn't feel like it. I woke up to the sound of my alarm at 7 am I wanted to keep sleeping but "the stink" aka my dog laya needed her morning walk. From there I began to cook breakfast for me and Kelcie. It was tastey I enjoy breakfast and I am a decent breakfast cook.

Once breakfast was finished I poured a cup of coffee and began to plug away at my assignment for my class I am taking on wednesday nights. I have been meaning to do this for a while but just got around to it now. Better late then never though. In the middle of working on this I was interupted to move some items to the front lawn. In Winnipeg this weekend it is a giveaway weekend where you can put all the stuff you dont want on the front lawn and people can come and take it. So since Winnipeg is full of cheap hicks the streets were packed with v8 chevys driven around full of Sh!t they probaily dont need.

It felt good to get some school work done and after that I went to the dog park for a quick walk which layla really appreciated. Even though she went in the biggest mud puddle I have ever seen and came out looking like a frickin grey hound.

After all this was done it was finally time to do the workout. But by this time I was exhausted so I layed down for an hour. When I woke up I felt rejuvenated and putting on my cycle shorts and flashy new helmet always gets me ready to go.

The cycle went well. I dropped my water bottle but for the most part there was no heavy wind and the time went by quickly. When I got back I quickly changed and headed out on a run. I felt awesome. I really appreciated the fact that I was fit and how much I enjoy activity.

Perspective

Through out the day we expeirance many different situations work, rest, workouts. Every now and then I will be caught in the fact that I am having a new perspective of things.

At work this happens all the time where I will doubt what I am doing, or I will just accept what I am doing as a job and many others are just working the same as me. But today when I was filling my truck up with gas I had this perspective of just how small I was in the world. Everybody moving so quickly around me and I am just so small tring to get by in the world.

The other new perspective I had came to me in the pool. Swimming for an entire year I spend a lot of time in the pool/ water. But today was different I was intially tired going to the pool but once I started swimming I could not stop. Where kicking used to bother me and take my energy it not longer did. As tired as I was every stroke felt good. It just felt good to mindlessly be going back and forth in the water it did not feel boring. And for the first time on one of my turns I looked up instead of down and it was different and I just appreciated it.

Training with someone else??

Today I decided to ride with someone else. Since I am going on to my second week of recovery and I will be back at it again next week. It was good the time went by fairly fast but not as fast as I thought it would. When you ride by yourself for an entire summer usually exhausted from work my brain would shut off anyways so I don't even really realize time. Anyways the whole experience of riding with someone else was frustrating first you have to wait till your both ready, then you have to meet up, and then you have to hope your both feeling good to go. Ugh. Too much work. Anyways all in all it was a good cycle I got my friend to pull most of the first lap and then I hammered out the second one and he was super stoked to be going to fast. So it worked out good for both of us.

Usually I have nothing exciting to write about and my days are fairly repetitive, but today was different. 3 good things actually happened today 1. my boss told me I am not getting laid off for another week 2. I test drove an amazing p2c which will be my next bike and 3. I had a good cycle with a friend I haven't seen in a while.

Sense of Accomplishment

Even though my race in muskoka was the worst race of my season. There is still a sense of accomplishment. I have the Official 70.3 mug and I drink from it with pride knowing I completed all 70.3 miles something most people have barley heard about. The day started with "work" which isn't really work. I work for the city and the most work I did all day was go for lunch with my aunt. I love my aunt and uncle they are always there for me they are two amazing people. Today all I did was cycle that was the other work I did today decide my workout.... Cycling in Winnipeg is boring to say the least it is ridiculusly flat and the roads are shit.

Learing to rest

It is hard to realize that the race I spent an entire year training for is over... So what did I do I registered for another one ( and hopefully 2). Because triathlon is now more then just one race it is a part of my life. I love the way I look I love the way I feel I love my motivation and I love my physical ability and attentiveness to proper health. It will be hard to make it till next may when race season starts again but hopefully continuing to write will help to pass the time. I just need to learn to relax and chill. As Brian said training for an ironman (or in my case a half ironman) is like being in prison. Now I am out of prison. This year I have new goals and I have to accept that I do not have to train as hard now as I was last year. Coming into this second year I am going to put my focus on to not getting injured and into getting stronger. Because this year my base fitness is already at the level I want. Heck I did 2 half ironmans in my first year taking this on and pb'ed in every race I entered. Now that I have become accustomed to the lifestyle I just have to find the means to maintain it. What better way to start this year then with a list of goals.

2009/2010 Triathlon realated goals:
-Sign up for complete 70.3 Syracuse
-Sign up and complete Ironman 70.3 Calgary
-Train at least 20 weeks with Mark Allen Online
-Get a Kurt Kinetic Trainer
-Get a 100mm rear carbon wheel

Muskoka

Well I did it its over the big race. It was probabily the worst race I have had all year I went out hard on the swim and cycle and died on the run to say the least. What is more important is that after an entire year I have become an athlete. The athlete I have always wanted to be. I look and feel great and I otherwise had a phenomonal season. Next year I am looking to do morden, ironman 70.3 syracurse, and ironman 70.3 calgary.

Mental log

Today was a unique day. Probabily the reason I have actually logged back into the blog. The training is getting harder and longer and life is just life. I showed up at birdshill today to do a swim and a run and I was exhausted and there was not really much food in the house. Before jumping in the water I asked the universe kindly for some energy just to be able to push through this one. The swim was a push from there I pushed myself onto the run i started out with a little kink in my back and running at my usual pace but about 15 mins in my body kicked into some kind of overdrive and i was running at almost race pace but with a stable hr. On the way back I just kept saying thank you, i needed this good run because my last few have been garbage and this was a real confidence booster. By the end of the run i was running 5:45 min mile!!! I finished and i felt amazing and i still feel amazing now. Talk about runners high.

The month of May

HAHAHA the month of may what a month a total write off for life. However not a write off for racing. May is the first month of racing. And it sure was different from the last years I have raced. I am on a whole new fitness level. I am so far ahead of myself I am going to have to recalibrate my goals for the racing season. The month started with a half marathon on may 3. Wether was decent.... cold but decent. I had lots of warm up time and mental calming with my girlfriend, I had my auntie and grandma on my back and nothing was gonna get in my way. The race started out smooth as usual. I looked at my gps and I was going much faster then previous races. I was aiming to do a 1:45:00 so 8/mile. As the race progressed instead of tiring out as usual. My legs stayed strong and more importantly my mind stayed strong. Which carried me to a 1:32:03 finish averaging 7:03/mile. I just smiled it was amazing. The second race was may 17 the NYPD memorial 5k in New York City. I went down there on a trip to visit a friend and I found a race to do. We showed up and the field was intimidating. This is the second 5k this season so I was able to gauge pace better. I was broken down from work but I put everything I had into that race. It payed off with a pb running a 19:18 6:13/mile avg. I almost shit. I Davis Sohor had broke 20min!!! and I won the 20-24 age cat. I was so pleased with my fitness. The final race which was actually in june it was today. My first olympic tri. I won my age cat the 2 people that were in it haha. But i beat that fucker hahah. Anyways more importantly the water was 13 degrees. But I have never done this distance or phathomed this distance before. The swim was relaxing, the bike was comfortable and the run was unspeakable. It was a 10k run i went out after a 40k bike and was averageing a 6:03 mile and i wasnt been breathing yet i was able to avg a 6:45 overall for a 43min 10k. through all this i try to have as little ego as possible. i am just grateful for the fitness level i have achieved. i am grateful my training and hard work has actually paid off. Life is good and i am enjoying it to the fullest. Until the next one. Stay positive!!!

Feelin It In The Swimmin

The last few swims I have been spoiled to have maximum power and just a really feel good experiance. But Monday was different it was a sruggle. Directly correlated to the poor eating and drinking which occured this weekend. That being said I pushed through the workout. And after another swimmin was taunting me for the weekend of drinking i lapped him on the next set. It was not the best and I did not max my speed by any means but the fact is i finished.

Monday:
Swim with club 90 mins
3600m

The Dark Cloud

Went on a trip this weekend was not exactly ideal for training. But I still managed to get both runs in.

Saturday:
4 miles easy

Sunday:
6 miles build
avg pace 7:45

Surprisingly was able to complete these runs feeling fairly well. I found it to be good mental training because my body was saying you are hungover, but my mind was saying your an athlete and i was able to battle the dark cloud.

Always Finish

Swimming with the club is always a challenge especially because its later on and your tired. It would be easy to call it quits at an hour but the push to 90mins is good for the mental. I had to take a nap before going because I had run eariler in the day but i still finished the workout and it was one of the longest ones todate.

Breaking Barriers

It has been weeks since I have entered in here but that does not mean I have taken a break. In fact in the last few weeks I have set some new standerds for myself and seen some of the training pay off. Recently I have swam farther then I have ever gone before, doing swims that are 90 mins anywhere from 3400m-3800m. And I ran a PB 5k at the assinibone park duck pond where the last time I ran I ran a 23:xx and this time I ran a 20:02!!! In the race I did not have my watch on only the pace and the conditions were not ideal. So next 5k will me sub 20 for sure. Another personal accomplishment was running when the weather was absolutly terrible. I went 10miles in wind and rain at 9:00 pm to the disralli and back. Although I was not running at my usual pace this run did amazing things for my mental stamaia. Sticking to the Never Give Up attitude I was also using the phrase The Only Limits Are The Ones We Place On Ourselves. Anyway it will be an exciting next 2 weeks including a 10k race this sunday and the wpg police half marathon on may 3 and I will definetly put more effort into updateing this and keeping track. Out for now Stay Positive.
